National Scholarship Office

Jeff Wing began as the National Scholarship Coordinator at VCU in July of 2005. In July of 2010, his title was changed to Director of the National Scholarship Office. In that role, Mr. Wing recruits VCU students and recent alumni to apply for a variety of nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships, works with the applicants to develop their proposals, and coordinates a large and growing group of VCU faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters to serve as critics and evaluators in an effort to help the candidates strengthen their applications. 

While he was a student at Kansas State University, Mr. Wing was awarded a Truman Scholarship, was a state finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship and a national finalist for the Marshall Scholarship. While attending law school, he served as a proctor (academic advisor for first-year students) at Harvard University. Mr. Wing also served on the Truman Scholarship nominating committee at Harvard and was a graduate teaching assistant at the Harvard Negotiation Project.

Wing received his B.A. in Political Science and Social Sciences from Kansas State University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Prior to joining The Honors College staff, he worked as a negotiation consultant for public and private organizations throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

Jeff is an avid runner and referees high school basketball games each winter.

Kelly Weissberger has more than 20 years of experience supporting students through high-impact academic experiences, including nationally competitive scholarships, study abroad, service-learning, and English language education. She has previously worked at Drexel University, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, The College of William and Mary, and the University of Virginia. She holds a Master of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts in English and History, magna cum laude, from the College of William & Mary.

Kelly began her VCU career in 2012 in the Global Education Office before moving to the National Scholarship Office, where she served as Assistant Director, and later returned as Associate Director. She brings particular expertise in Fulbright, having served as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant to Bosnia and Herzegovina and, more recently, as a facilitator for Fulbright English Teaching Assistant pre-departure training. She has advised applicants for distinguished awards such as the Rhodes, Marshall, Mitchell, Schwarzman, Fulbright, Truman, Boren, and Gilman scholarships, while also designing workshops, facilitating writing development, and building programs that foster student success. 

Kelly is passionate about helping learners develop confidence as writers, global citizens, and leaders. Her work reflects a commitment to educational access, ethical international engagement, and mentorship that empowers students to achieve ambitious academic and professional goals. She brings a collaborative, student-centered approach to every role, combining expertise in writing, advising, and program development with a deep appreciation for the transformative power of international education.

Stephani (Nia) Rodgers works with faculty, students and staff in the Political Science Department, The Robertson School of Media and Culture and the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs to support their research and learning needs. She provides classroom instruction sessions as well as one-on-one consultations. Rodgers coordinates the VCU Libraries' government document collections and has a great interest in providing public access to government information. Her research interests include access to government documents, national security, intellectual freedom and open access. She enjoys working with the National Scholarship Office to assist applicants in preparing their scholarship packages. She is the creator of the podcast Civil Discourse.
