National Scholarship Office

Jeff Wing began as the National Scholarship Coordinator at VCU in July of 2005. In July of 2010, his title was changed to Director of the National Scholarship Office. In that role, Mr. Wing recruits VCU students and recent alumni to apply for a variety of nationally competitive scholarships and fellowships, works with the applicants to develop their proposals, and coordinates a large and growing group of VCU faculty, staff, alumni and community supporters to serve as critics and evaluators in an effort to help the candidates strengthen their applications. 

While he was a student at Kansas State University, Mr. Wing was awarded a Truman Scholarship, was a state finalist for the Rhodes Scholarship and a national finalist for the Marshall Scholarship. While attending law school, he served as a proctor (academic advisor for first-year students) at Harvard University. Mr. Wing also served on the Truman Scholarship nominating committee at Harvard and was a graduate teaching assistant at the Harvard Negotiation Project.

Wing received his B.A. in Political Science and Social Sciences from Kansas State University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Prior to joining The Honors College staff, he worked as a negotiation consultant for public and private organizations throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

Jeff is an avid runner and referees high school basketball games each winter.

Meredith Sisson, Ph.D., joined the National Scholarship Office in 2016, having previously worked in the National Fellowships Program at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). There she worked closely with applicants for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program and with the Johns Hopkins Hodson Scholars program. 

She completed her doctorate in the History of Art at JHU in 2015, after having held a Gerda Henkel Stiftung predoctoral fellowship to conduct dissertation research in Rome, Italy. Dr. Sisson earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in the History of Art from the Johns Hopkins University, and her B.A. in Art History from Dartmouth College. 

When she's not chasing around her kids, Meredith likes to practice yoga and to cook.

Stephani (Nia) Rodgers works with faculty, students and staff in the Political Science Department, The Robertson School of Media and Culture and the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs to support their research and learning needs. She provides classroom instruction sessions as well as one-on-one consultations. Rodgers coordinates the VCU Libraries' government document collections and has a great interest in providing public access to government information. Her research interests include access to government documents, national security, intellectual freedom and open access. She enjoys working with the National Scholarship Office to assist applicants in preparing their scholarship packages. She is the creator of the podcast Civil Discourse.

Marissa Price joined the National Scholarship Office in 2024 as the Graduate Assistant. Previously, she worked closely with students at universities across North America as a Campus Representative Advisor for international non-profit organizations. For over nine years, she helped students establish student organizations on campus, plan educational events, and become exemplary student leaders and ambassadors. 

In 2015, she earned her B.A. in International Affairs with a minor in Anthropology from The George Washington University, where she was also part of the GW Honors Program. She is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Business/Branding at the VCU Brandcenter, with a Concentration in Copywriting, and will graduate in May 2026. 

Marissa loves exploring Richmond and hiking the beautiful Virginia State Parks but also cherishes moments at home with her partner and their four furry companion animals. She is a voracious reader and book hoarder addicted to hot yoga.
