Yenching Academy Scholarship

The Yenching Academy of Peking University offers a Master’s degree in China studies to Chinese and international students. This English-taught program is focused on creating innovative approaches to China’s development from diverse perspectives. International Yenching Scholars study for twelve months, while Yenching Scholars from China study for an additional year. The year in residence will allow students to complete coursework and participate in an innovative community of global thinkers. Scholars may then apply for teaching, research, or administrative grants in order to complete on-going projects and defend their thesis. Scholars choose one of six academic concentrations in:

  • Politics and international relations
  • Philosophy and religion
  • Literature and culture
  • Law and society
  • History and archaeology
  • Economics and management

Scholars are encouraged to actively engage in dialogue between different disciplines. Complementary Chinese language training is provided for international students.

The Yenching Academy Scholarship covers:

  • Tuition fees
  • A travel stipend for one round-trip journey between each Scholar’s base city and Beijing
  • On-campus accommodations and living costs

Applicants must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in any field before enrollment, an outstanding academic record, English proficiency, a record of extracurricular achievement, and leadership potential. Preference is given to candidates who are 25 years old or younger.
