Jade Kern, a an alumni with a degree in biology, studied with the School for Field studies in Tanzania over the summer. She had also been awarded the School for Field Studies Scholarship and a VCU Study Abroad Scholarship for this study abroad experience. Her time in Tanzania was spent studying the techniques that conservation biologists take to determine the density, diversity and habitat preference of wildlife, as well as how to plan, prepare and conduct a survey of local fauna. Jade plans to attend graduate school after her undergraduate studies, and hopes that this experience will aid her in the process of choosing a career in wildlife conservation or wildlife medicine. Originally from Amelia, Va., Jade is also a member of the Pre-Med Society and Pre-Vet Society of VCU and a volunteer for the Richmond SPCA.
