Catherine Purdy, from Richmond, Va., received a master’s degree in early and elementary education from VCU in 2012. Purdy served as an English Teaching Assistant (ETA) in Taiwan for the 2013-2014 academic year. She worked in a primary/middle school where she was able to use her experience teaching in American schools to teach Taiwanese students about the daily academic and social lives of their American counterparts. Purdy plans to work full-time as an elementary school teacher. She hopes to use her Fulbright experience to form a lasting professional partnership in Taiwan so she can provide a unique cultural and linguistic understanding to her future students each school year by communicating with Taiwanese students via technology such as Skype.
